The new generation of platform furniture.
ProRail is responsible for the Dutch rail network and works hard every day to make the rail network safer, more reliable, more punctual and more durable. A new generation of platform furniture, designed by Fabrique, will contribute to this.
Challenge
Design a complete family of platform furniture consisting of benches, waiting rooms, departure schedule display cases, wind shelters and waste bins.
Solution
Together, the companies OFN, Epsilon and Fabrique are developing, manufacturing and placing platform furniture at stations. They are doing this on behalf of ProRail which maintains and extends the Dutch national railway network infrastructure. The platform furniture was conceptualised by designers Blom & Moors and consists of benches, waiting rooms, departure schedule display cases, wind shelters, concrete seats and waste bins. With the new platform furniture and renovation, ProRail aims to make passengers’ stay more comfortable.
Result
The new furniture was tested and received a high rating from travelers. The Hague CS, Rotterdam CS, Hoevelaken and Groningen Europapark stations will be the first to be equipped with the new passenger facilities. Other stations will follow in the coming years.
