Free-standing supportive structure
Patio furniture such as glass roofs and awnings are often attached to a wall, altough this is not always possible. By designing a free-standing construction you can still enjoy shade in your garden, without a nearby facade.
Challenge
Design a free-standing supporting structure where all existing Lewens systems can be hung on both sides. These systems consist of sun awnings with different cassettes and glass roofs. The challenge of this project is to make the construction as stiff as possible, so that it can support all kinds of weights of the various products. Possible weather conditions such as heavy wind forces, snow load and UV radiation are also taken into account. These parameters influence the shape of the construction and the choice of materials.
Solution
We have created an aluminum extrusion profile that is stiff enough to support a Lewens product on both sides. If only one side is used, the other side is nicely sealed with a cover profile. The different systems can be attached to the supporting structure with matching brackets. A roof can also be clicked on top of the support profile, so that no rain can trickle between the profiles. There is space at the bottom of the support profile to attach a heater or LED light.
Result
This product is not only attractive for private use in a garden or patio, but also for gastronomy. For example, to cover a terrace and protect it from the sun and rain. The construction is rigid enough for awnings and glass roofs up to 6 m wide, on both sides!
